British citizen David Taylor and his Australian 46 year old partner Sara Connor were sentenced on Monday over the death of an Indonesian police officer while on holiday in Bali. Taylor has decided not to appeal his sentence, whereas Connor is yet to release a statement regarding her sentence.

Taylor was found guilty of group assault by hitting officer Wayan Sudursa with a bottle causing death in Kuta in August, and sentenced to six years in jail. His Australian partner Sara Connor, who has maintained her innocence, was also sentenced to four years in jail. Taylor said while at the beach they missed Connor’s handbag, and he confronted Officer Sudursa about stealing it. Then the confrontation turned into a fight. Connor tried to stop the fight by separating the two.

Both Taylor and Connor claimed they acted in self defense. The officer who was attacked, had forty-two wounds to his body, more than a dozen were found in his head and neck.

Taylor was found guilty of group assault causing death, escaping a harsher verdict of murder. He will serve his sentence at Bali’s Kerobokan prison and will be eligible for remissions which are estimated to be granted on national holidays.
