The LTA has QR-code geofencing and new licensing regimes up and running to deal with errant bike users, who park indiscriminately.

These changes were a part of the Parking Places (amendment) Bill tabled in Singapore’s parliament on March 5, 2018.

Under the new regulations, LTA would check the fleets of various bike-sharing companies like oBike based on how smart they were at dealing with errant users.

LTA sometimes would have the power to tell the bike sharing companies to ban users from renting bikes temporarily if they repeatedly were indiscriminate parkers.

It would also be allowed to suspend or cancel licenses, reduce fleet sizes, and take other regulation measures against errant companies.

The bike-sharing companies will be required to get a license and those who operated illegaly could be fined SGD10,000 or put in jail for six months.
